5 Celebrities Known to be Poker Enthusiasts

Poker is a game of the skilled. And who would be a better choice for this than the people we have been appreciating for their various skills and hard work. Becoming a celebrity sounds all fun and frolic until you know the effort put behind reaching where they are today. Here are a few celebrities who are also known for their poker skills.

Michael Phelps

The most successful Olympian in history, Michael Phelps is an American swimming Legend. His 8 Gold medals in the 2008 Beijing Olympics are an example of his exemplary performances. Phelps has won a staggering 28 Olympic medals, 23 of which are gold, both of them being an all time Olympic record.

Phelps was introduced to poker by his once roommate and professional poker player Jeff Gross. He has since taken part in various tournaments in the Bahamas and participated in the WSOP in Vegas. His best performance came in a 2008 No-Limit Hold’em event at a Caesars Palace Classic.

Tobey Maguire

The original Spider-Man for the 90’s kids, Tobey Maguire is very well known throughout the world for his appearance in Stan Lee’s renowned movie series. He is also very well versed with the rules of poker. He is known to be a really tough opponent and has been playing poker ever since 2004. Tobey is also one of the few celebrities who play poker both live and online.

Although it is believed that the American film star refuses to play without his Shuffle Master, a device that costs $17,000 and is supposed to deliver a fair, random shuffle every time as well as increase the speed of each game.

Jennifer Tilly

Jennifer Tilly, the ace female poker star is a name you would relate to a lot if you’ve been following global poker tournaments. The US born actress turned poker superstar has enjoyed a lot of success over the years. She was nominated for the Academy Awards in 1995 for the Best Supporting Actor (female) category for the movie Bullets over Broadway. She is also known for her recurring voiceover role in the popular Tv show Family Guy.

Jennifer holds the rare World Series of Poker bracelet and sits with the elites on top of the poker rankings. Along with that she has also won a Bellagio Cup, a WPT Ladies Night Invitational and regularly participates in live poker events.

Aaron Paul

Most widely renowned for his state of  the art performance in Vince Gilligan’s Breaking Bad, Aaron Paul was convinced to join the LA Sunset by the Global Poker League Team Manager Maria Ho.He played just two matches in the process and ended up winning both, showcasing his nag of playing poker.

Aaron also took the internet for a storm when he featured in an advertisement for an online poker company alongside the world’s most popular athlete, Cristiano Ronaldo showcasing how to play texas poker. He has since taken part in the WSOP and also played in various live events in the Bahamas.

Gerard Pique

It is no breaking news that Gerard Pique is an amid poker player and a follower. The former Manchester United player learned to play poker alongside teammates Darren Fletcher, John O’Shea and Wes Brown during his short span with the English giants.

Pique is still enjoying a successful football career and has won almost everything he would have dreamt as a child, but he has been spotted participating at the WSOP and at various events on the European Poker Tour. He has had a career winnings of $275,000, which is almost equal to his weekly wage at FC Barcelona.
